Napoli have made a cutthroat decision to exile Victor Osimhen from their squad, and have given his number 9 shirt to Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian wore the number 11 in Napoli’s recent game against Parma, where he scored in injury time. However, he will now wear the number 9 shirt which belonged to Osimhen.

The Nigerian has not been registered as part of the Azzurri’s Serie A squad for the season. As a result, he will likely be sidelined till January if he isn’t able to move to Saudi Arabia or another club in the coming days.

Al Ahli had seemingly reached an agreement with Napoli over the transfer before the club raised their demands. Osimhen, however, didn’t quite give them the green light in spite of having a massive offer on the table.

Chelsea also tried to sign him, but offered him a wage that was half of what he currently gets at Napoli. As a result, he wasn’t able to agree to a contract with them either, and is now stuck at Napoli for the time being.

The former Serie A champions are doing the same with Mario Rui as he has been left out of their squad as well. Rui is also planning to leave the club, but will do so on his terms in the future, potentially in the January transfer window.
