Napoli have made an opening offer for Azzedine Ounahi of French club Angers. Their bid is worth €15 million, and they are confident of wrapping up a deal for the Morocco international.
The player made a name for himself during his time with the national team last month at the World Cup in Qatar. He contributed significantly as the Atlas Lions reached the semi-finals of the tournament in an unprecedented achievement.
Azzedine Ounahi on the radar of Napoli as well
Barcelona were linked with the midfielder as well, but the Azzurri have surged ahead by making first contact with his club. They are not planning to acquire him immediately, and would let him stay at Angers till the end of the season before he joins the team.
Leicester City and Marseille were among the other teams keeping tabs on the player. But, it now seems likely that he will be recruited by Napoli in the coming days.
It should be noted that nothing has been confirmed as of yet and the race is still open. Given Barcelona’s recent fines and financial sanctions, they will be unable to recruit any players in January unless they sell first. So, they can effectively be counted out of the race for Azzedine Ounahi right now.
