Nahuel Molina is set to sign a new contract with Atletico Madrid in the coming weeks, extending his stay with the club until June 2028. The full-back is viewed as a key member of the first team and is considered vital for their project in the long-term. As a result, the new deal will be a massive boost for their ambitions in the coming years.
The Argentine’s contract will also have a release clause worth €70 million, as mandated by LaLiga rules. The amount isn’t as high as those set by Barcelona and Real Madrid on players that they absolutely don’t want to lose (€1 billion). But, the relatively lower release clause suggests that Atletico could let go of him for a sizable compensation.
Nahuel Molina to sign new contract with Atletico Madrid until 2028
The 25-year-old has played 15 games across all competitions this season, scoring two goals and assisting three. He has also made 35 appearances for the Argentina national team since his debut in 2021, winning the Copa America, Finalissima and the 2022 World Cup with them.
A muscle injury kept him out for a month this season, but he has been a regular under Diego Simeone since his move from Udinese last summer.
With the board’s renewed faith in the defender, it will be interesting to see how things turn out for him as he approaches his peak years.
