Mumbai City FC have extended the contracts of Jorge Pereyra Diaz, Rostyn Griffiths and Alberto Noguera for one more season. All the players played a very important part in winning the ISL league title this past season, with an 18-match unbeaten run.
Moreover, they also finished as runners-up in the Durand Cup, while establishing themselves as the top side in the country. The Islanders made it to the semi-finals of the knockout stages and were only eliminated on penalties.
Mumbai City FC extends contracts of three vital players
Pereyra Diaz led the team with 11 goals and six assists in 20 ISL games this past season. The Argentine was as clinical as ever in the Durand Cup as well, scoring once and assisting thrice in four matches.
Alberto Noguera’s presence was vital in controlling the tempo and helping the team manage games late. He was often brought off the bench to make an impact, and still managed to score four goals.
The towering presence of Griffiths was only one of the aspects which made him an important part of the team. He embodied the ball-playing centre-back role very well, and completed over 90% of attempted passes.
Mumbai City FC will be playing the last AFC Champions League for India for a while. They managed an unprecedented feat of winning two games in the competition last time around, and could better their record this time.
