The Mariners are no longer unbeaten in the ISL, after being handed their first loss by the league winners of last season. But it took a fiery match for the title winners to first taste defeat.
Akash Mishra was shown a straight red just 13 minutes into the game, making for a heated fixture. And Jason Cummings capitalised on the man advantage by scoring in the 25th minute. The Australian has now scored four goals in seven ISL games, becoming a vital player for them. However, their lead would be neutralised before the break with Greg Stewart scoring in the 44th minute.Â

The second half topped the first by a huge margin in terms of intensity. Asish Rai was shown a straight red, and in protest, Liston Colaco was shown a yellow, followed by a red.
With the game now between 10 and 9 men each, Mumbai City took the advantage through Bipin Singh, with the winger converting Greg Stewart’s assist to take the lead. The Scottish midfielder would then be shown a second yellow card for diving to send him off, before Vikram Pratap Singh and Hector Yuste were also shown red cards after the game had finished following a bust-up between them.
