Kerala Blasters came away with a 3-0 win against the reigning champions of the ISL, Mumbai City FC. The dismissal of Mourtada Fall meant that Mumbai had to play with a man down for the last 40 minutes of the game. Here are the three talking points from the entertaining fixture.
Two must-see goals
The first two goals scored by Kerala Blasters during the game were absolutely incredible. Sahal Samad found himself at the end of the best passing sequence of the match, and smashed the ball into the back of the net to open the scoring.
Alvaro Vasquez would then join in, scoring a long-range effort himself after another swift passing sequence.
The Champions collapse
Never before have we seen Mumbai City FC struggle in a game this bad. At the end of 50 minutes, they were three goals down and a man light.
They didn’t look like scoring for the majority of the game, and were unable to take the few chances that arose as well. Despite their loss, they remain at the top of the table with 15 points from 7 games.
Mohammad Nawaz bails out Mumbai City FC
Had the Mumbai City FC goalkeeper not been in form today, we would have seen many more goals in favour of Kerala Blasters. Mohammad Nawaz stopped a number of efforts on goal from Kerala Blasters, particularly Alvaro Vasquez’s shot from 35 yards out early in the game.
He would be called into action later as well, and did extremely well to prevent further damage. However, he was unable to save the two wonderstrikes and the penalty. As a result, Mumbai City FC ultimately ended up on the wrong side of the scoreline.
