Moussa Dembele is set to leave Lyon as a free agent this summer. There are several clubs interested in signing the striker, but there is no agreement with any of them as of yet. As confirmed by Fabrizio Romano, the race to sign him is still very open.
The forward rose to prominence during his time with Celtic. He eventually moved to Lyon, but failed to live up to expectations there. A short spell with Atletico Madrid didn’t work out for him either, and he is now expected to take up a new challenge elsewhere.
Moussa Dembele to leave Lyon as a free agent
Clubs in Italy and the Premier League are keeping tabs on him as things stand. Aston Villa and Everton are two of the clubs that are keeping an eye on his situation and could open talks soon. His injury record could prove to be a deterrent, but he has shown that he has the quality needed to be a reliable goalscorer.
The 26-year-old has scored 70 goals in 171 games, which is not a bad return. But, he has not been as consistent as hoped for. Celtic had a sell-on clause in his contract, but will seemingly not make any money as he will be leaving as a free agent.
Moussa Dembele’s acceleration and ability to run in behind the defence makes him a big threat for teams that have a counter attacking approach. And remains to be seen which side ends up signing him, especially given that there is no transfer fee involved.
