Mortal Kombat 1 drops its new latest trailer

Mortal Kombat 1 has begun its press tour ahead of release, just as Ed Boon had promised during Summer Game Fest. The first gameplay trailer for Mortal Kombat 1 was quickly released by NetherRealm during Summer Game Fest after an interesting announcement trailer that revealed the game would be a reboot. Shortly after, the highly-anticipated Kombat Kast of Mortal Kombat returned, featuring NetherRealm developers analyzing the game’s core mechanics and providing further insights into its characters.

The initial Kombat Kast provided in-depth explanations of various new features in Mortal Kombat 1. One particular feature that was extensively discussed was the Kameo system, which highlighted the distinctive abilities and movesets of Scorpion and Johnny Cage. Both fighters showcased a combination of traditional and innovative combos. Furthermore, the recent teaser for Mortal Kombat 1 confirmed that the Kameo fighters would be fully playable, which undoubtedly generated the most excitement among fans following the first Kombat Kast.

This most recent Mortal Kombat 1 teaser, dubbed the Lin Kuei trailer, highlighted the titular ninja clan.

The Mortal Kombat 1 trailer presented a combination of gameplay and narrative aspects and introduced five new characters, two of which were playable while the other three made cameo appearances. In the beginning, there was a brief cinematic sequence that emphasized the sibling relationship between Scorpion and Sub-Zero. After that, the trailer focused on showcasing a substantial gameplay segment featuring Sub-Zero, while Scorpion assumed the role of a cameo fighter.

After that, a new fighter is introduced. Smoke returns to the lineup in Mortal Kombat 1, having first appeared in Mortal Kombat 2. Despite not being blood relatives, Scorpion claims to still consider Smoke as his brother in the character’s short introductory scene.

The gameplay discussed revolves around Smoke and introduces new techniques for this character. In Kombat 1, Smoke employs a floating dagger for combat, deviating from his previous reliance on projectiles and swift hand strikes. Nevertheless, he retains his signature teleportation abilities and smoke bomb attacks, which are sure to delight fans.

The trailer switches to Rain, the following newly confirmed fully playable character for Kombat 1 after additional Sub-Zero footage. Another stalwart of the franchise, Rain initially made an appearance in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, albeit his moveset is once again very different from his typical fighting approach. Mortal Kombat 1’s Rain will employ staff with a ball of water held at the top rather than his fists or a glaive. Almost all of Rain’s moves use this water ball, which he manipulates to produce whirlpool gateways, enormous waves of water that resemble fists, and enormous raindrops that are large enough to smash his foe.

Three additional Kameo combatants are reported to appear in Kombat 1 throughout the trailer. The first of these is Cyrax, a former assassin who has been transformed into a cyborg, and belongs to the yellow Lin Kuei faction. Furthermore, within the realm of the Kameo game, there are two additional cyborg characters associated with the red Lin Kuei faction – Sektor and Frost, who remains in her human form. Each of these combatants in the game possesses an exclusive repertoire of techniques that devoted fans of the series have grown accustomed to, such as Frost’s icy daggers, Sektor’s missiles, and Cyrax’s buzzing saw. Mortal Kombat 1 will be released on September 19, 2023, for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
