Monaco are set to complete their first new signing of the January transfer window by bringing in Thilo Kehrer from West Ham United. The defender will join the Principality club on a loan deal with the obligation for a permanent transfer if certain sporting achievements are met in the latter half of the season.

West Ham United will receive a loan fee worth €500,000 for their player, with the buy option priced separately. A final price tag will be set once the two clubs have reached an agreement over the conditions of the deal, but it is rumoured to be around €10 million.

OGC Nice were also in talks with West Ham, alongside AC Milan who are on the lookout for a new centre-back. But Monaco were always leading the race to land the defender. He is now set to undergo medical tests imminently to complete his transfer.

Kehrer has not had a lot of minutes on the pitch in the last six months, playing only 392 minutes across 12 appearances in all competitions. And there is optimism on his part that the transfer will allow him to get more minutes.

With Mohamed Salisu and Wilfried Singo leaving for AFCON, Thilo Kehrer will have ample opportunities to impress for Monaco. His performances in the second half of the season will also have an impact on whether he makes it to the German national team for the European Championship in the summer.
