Mohun Bagan SG were left stunned at the Salt Lake Stadium after Odisha FC completed a 5-2 comeback to claim all three points in their AFC Cup Group Stage match. Another win would have allowed the Mariners to qualify for the knockout stages, but their fate now depends on Odisha FC not winning their final game which would allow them a chance to finish second.

The home team was missing four players through injury, but after spending upwards of INR 70 crore to build one of the deepest squads the ISL has ever seen, that might not be a valid excuse. Juan Ferrando’s men started the game positively, with Hugo Boumous scoring 17 minutes into the game. But, it would be levelled near the half-hour mark with Roy Krishna scoring against his former team.

Quickfire goals from Diego Mauricio and Cy Goddard before half time allowed the visitors to head back into the tunnel with a 3-1 lead, much to the dismay of the home fans.

Kiyan Nassiri was subbed on in the second half, and the youngster made a mark once again after finding the back of the net, coming off the bench. However, it wasn’t enough to turn things around with Odisha scoring twice again in injury time to seal a massive 5-2 win.

They had been smashed for 4-0 by Mohun Bagan SG in the reverse fixture, and have now extracted revenge in the best possible way, defeating the reigning ISL winners on their own ground.

Odisha will take on Basundhara Kings in their final AFC Cup Group Stage match while Mohun Bagan SG will take on Maziya to try and make it to the knockout stages.
