Mohun Bagan SG played out a 0-0 draw with Tajik side Ravshan Kulob in their first match of the AFC Cup 24-25 group stage. The Mariners have shared one point with their opposition as their continental campaign started rather slowly.
Both the hosts and the visitors had 11 shots in the game, with two on target. However, the possession metrics told a different story altogether. While Bagan enjoyed 63% of possession and dominated the ball, their opponents only had the ball for a third of the game, but were more effective.

The hosts had plenty of incredible chances to go up in the game, but Jason Cummings and Dimitri Petratos were far from their best under the Salt Lake Stadium floodlights.
While they are usually dominant in the ISL, they simply could not convert Greg Stewart’s incredible passes. Jamie Maclaren on the other hand, was left on the bench, and the Australian would have surely fancied himself to score at least one of those chances missed.
In the end, the missed opportunities might prove to be too costly for the ISL winners, as they face strong opposition next. However, with their incredible transfer window performance, they might be on their way to the knockout stage as the team gets to know each other better.
