The Mariners had to dig deep to fight back from 2-0 down. After Sunil Chhetri gave his side the lead from the spot, Vinith Venkatesh doubled the Blues’ lead shortly into the second half. However, the visitors were unable to hold on to their lead.
Dimi Petratos made it 2-1 from the penalty spot with just over 20 minutes to play. And in the 84th minute, Anirudh Thapa equalised for the home team to send the game to penalties. Although Greg Stewart had his penalty saved, two saves from Kaith in the shootout ensured that they won the game.
Now, it remains to be seen if they can win the historic trophy for the second season in a row to start their campaign on a high.
