The first match of the new ISL season started with an entertaining 2-2 draw between Mohun Bagan SG and Mumbai City FC at Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata, in a repeat of the concluding fixture of the 23-24 season.
The hosts looked like they would cruise to a comfortable win, as they were up 2-0 at half time. Former player Tiri scored an own goal, before Alberto Rodriguez doubled their lead near the half hour mark in what was a dismal start for the visitors.

The second half, however, was a totally different game as Mumbai City FC stepped up, determined to get back on level terms. Substitutions helped their cause as well, as would be evident late in the game.
Tiri made amends for his own goal by scoring in the 70th minute to smash home a volley. Thaer Krouma ended up scoring the equaliser in injury time to make it 2-2 and ensure that the Islanders left Kolkata with a point.
In spite of a late shout for a handball in the Mumbai City FC penalty box, Mohun Bagan SG simply could not conjure up another attack to finish off the game. And in the end, they had to settle for two dropped points to start their campaign.
