In a recent turn of events, Pakistan’s wicketkeeper, Mohammad Rizwan, has found himself at the center of a storm as a complaint has been filed against him with the International Cricket Council (ICC). The complaint revolves around Rizwan’s on-field act of offering Namaz during a match between Pakistan and the Netherlands, held in Hyderabad on October 6. Offering Namaz During a Crucial Match

During the Pakistan vs. Netherlands match, Mohammad Rizwan, a prominent player in the Pakistani cricket team, was seen offering Namaz on the field. This act was met with mixed reactions, but it did not go unnoticed. Vineet Jindal, a supreme court lawyer, took a step forward by filing an official complaint with the ICC, citing that Rizwan’s actions went against the spirit of sportsmanship.

The Controversial Past

It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time Mohammad Rizwan has offered Namaz during a match. In the T20 World Cup of 2021, Rizwan repeated this on-field practice against India. Surprisingly, his actions were not met with significant criticism during that time. However, this time around, the circumstances have changed.

The Timing and Political Tensions

The World Cup 2023 is being hosted in India, a country with a long-standing history of cricket rivalry with Pakistan. With political tensions between the two nations off the field, every action on the cricket field is closely scrutinized. Rizwan’s on-field Namaz has, unfortunately, become entangled in these geopolitics.

The Complainant – Vineet Jindal

Vineet Jindal, the individual who filed the complaint against Rizwan, is not new to the world of cricket-related controversies. In the past, Jindal had also filed a complaint against Pakistan host and commentator Zainab Abbas. He claimed that her tweets were blasphemous and offensive towards Indians and Hinduism. Jindal’s involvement in these incidents highlights the growing impact of social media and public reactions in the world of cricket.

ICC’s Response

In response to the complaint filed against Mohammad Rizwan, the ICC made a significant decision. They decided not to take any action against Rizwan for his tweet in support of Gaza on October 11. This decision came after Pakistan’s victory over Sri Lanka in their second match. The ICC clarified that they do not have the authority to take action against an individual for actions outside the cricket field. The responsibility for any such action lies with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Rizwan himself.

Mohammad Rizwan’s Stellar Performances in the World Cup 2023

Beyond the controversy, Rizwan has delivered exceptional performances in the World Cup 2023, establishing himself as a key player for Pakistan. In three games, he has accumulated a staggering 248 runs at an astonishing average of 124.00, showcasing his consistency and ability to perform under pressure.

In a standout performance against India, Rizwan played a crucial role in leapfrogging New Zealand’s Devon Conway as the leading run-scorer of the 2023 ICC World Cup. His unbeaten century, scoring 131 runs, and a brilliant partnership with young Abdullah Shafique, who scored his maiden ODI century (113), were pivotal in Pakistan’s world-record chase of 345 against Sri Lanka on October 10th in Hyderabad.

The duo shared a match-winning 176-run stand for the third wicket, and their remarkable performance secured Pakistan’s victory in just 48.2 overs. This historical run-chase is now etched in the annals of World Cup history.

“I dedicated this victory to our brothers and sisters in Gaza. I’m delighted to have played a part in securing the win. My gratitude extends to the entire team, with special acknowledgment for Abdullah Shafique and Hassan Ali, who made our path to victory smoother. I’m profoundly thankful for the incredible warmth and support we received from the people of Hyderabad throughout this journey,” Rizwan shared on X.

The controversy surrounding Mohammad Rizwan’s on-field Namaz during the World Cup 2023 has added an unexpected layer to the ongoing tournament. As this issue unfolds, the cricketing world watches closely, aware of the potential impact it could have on the relationship between sports and politics. The ICC’s decision not to take action for actions off the field underscores the boundary between a player’s personal life and their professional commitments.

In the midst of this controversy, Rizwan’s outstanding performances on the cricket field highlight his dedication and skills as a cricketer. As the World Cup in India continues, fans can expect more thrilling cricketing action and hope to see Rizwan’s contributions play a pivotal role in Pakistan’s campaign.
