Liverpool fans are starting to get concerned about the contract situation of their star forward, Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian is currently the best player in the Premier League by quite a margin. He is also entering the final 18 months of his contract, and is attracting interest from other top European clubs.
One of those clubs is Barcelona, who also happen to be in over a billion Euros worth of debt. “I read what was said about Xavi’s interest to sign me,” Salah said. “This is something that makes me happy that a team like Barcelona is interested in me, but I’m happy in Liverpool and we will see what happens in the future.
“At the moment, I prefer to stay in the Premier League as it’s the strongest league in the world.”
The 29-year-old leads the race for the Premier League Golden Boot, as well as the most assists in the division. It is safe to say that he is at the peak of his abilities, with 13 goals and 9 assists from 15 league games so far.
“I said it several times: if the decision is up to me, I want to stay in Liverpool,” said Salah. “But the decision is in the hands of the management and they have to solve this issue.
“There is no problem, but we have to reach an agreement for the contract. It’s up to them. Your financial value shows how much the club appreciates you and that they are ready to do anything for you to stay, but the decision itself is not based on those financial matters only.
“There are things like the ambition of the team and the coach and what he wants to do with the team and the players he wants. These are all important points when making the decision.”
Liverpool have already begun contract talks with their star forward, but have not yet reached an agreement. They are in no rush to close the deal, with Salah’s current deal running until 2023. But, the fans will certainly be able to rest easy when they know that their best player has decided to stay loyal to the club for the upcoming years.
