For at least the next two years, the Egyptian King will remain firmly on his throne.

The player who declared himself “more out than in” back in November is now fully committed, as it was confirmed that Mohamed Salah will continue at Liverpool beyond this season.

On Friday morning, the club announced that Salah has signed a two-year contract extension at Anfield. This is fantastic news for Reds supporters and a nightmare for Premier League defenders.

Salah’s Legacy Continues: A Contract Extension that Ensures More Glory for Liverpool

Salah has already won nearly everything at Liverpool, including a Premier League title (with another likely to come in the next few weeks), a Champions League, an FA Cup, two EFL Cups, a UEFA Super Cup, and a FIFA Club World Cup.

And he’s not stopping there. After signing his new contract, Salah expressed his excitement to the club’s official website: “Of course, I’m very excited. We have a great team now. Before, we also had a great team. But I signed because I believe we have the chance to win more trophies and continue enjoying my football.”

It’s great, I had my best years here. I played eight years, hopefully it’s going to be 10. [I’m] enjoying my life here, enjoying my football. I had the best years in my career.”

I would like to say to [the fans], I am very, very happy to be here. I signed here because I believe we can win a lot of big trophies together. Keep supporting us and we’ll give it our best, and hopefully in the future we’re going to win more trophies.”

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot was understandably delighted at his press conference on Friday ahead of Sunday’s Premier League match against West Ham. He said: “[I’m] happy, of course. He’s shown at this club for so many years how valuable he is to the team and the club. Like all our fans and his teammates, we are thrilled that he has extended for two more years, and hopefully, he can show again on Sunday just how important he has been to us this season.”

There had been concerns that Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold might all leave with their contracts expiring at the end of the campaign. However, with Salah’s contract extension, the Reds now know that at least the Egyptian will be staying next season.

The impact he’s already made has been incredible, and with another two-and-a-bit years to continue terrorizing Premier League defences, his legacy is bound to grow even further.

His accomplishments and the player he’s become should not be underestimated, as few could have predicted that he would reach, and consistently maintain, the level of excellence he has for the Reds.

From Chelsea Reject to Liverpool Legend: Salah’s Incredible Journey

When Liverpool brought Mohamed Salah back to the Premier League, following his disappointing stint at Chelsea, many were skeptical. Having struggled to make an impact at Stamford Bridge after his 2014 move from Basel, scoring only four goals in 27 appearances (15 starts) across all competitions, his future in top-flight football seemed uncertain.

However, Salah found his stride during a short loan spell at Fiorentina in Serie A, which led to a loan and later permanent move to Roma. There, he blossomed into one of Europe’s most exciting wingers. Liverpool, who had tried to sign him before his Chelsea move, finally secured his services three years later, with the timing proving ideal. He hit the ground running, netting an astonishing 44 goals in 52 games in his first season back in England, and he has never looked back.

Since joining Liverpool in 2017, Salah has made 394 appearances in all competitions, starting 360 of them. He’s scored 243 goals and provided 109 assists, averaging a goal involvement every 91 minutes—an exceptional record over such a large number of games. His tally of 243 goals for the Reds includes 182 in the Premier League, 45 in the Champions League, five in the Europa League, six in the FA Cup, four in the EFL Cup, and one in the Community Shield.

Salah also boasts three Premier League Golden Boots, with a fourth likely this season, having scored 27 league goals in 2024-25—at least six more than anyone else. His closest rival, Erling Haaland, is currently sidelined with an ankle injury.

His most recent brace of penalties in the 3-1 home win over Southampton saw Salah surpass Gordon Hodgson to claim third place on Liverpool’s all-time scoring list, only behind Roger Hunt (285) and Ian Rush (346).

Salah’s Consistency and Quest for Liverpool’s All-Time Scoring Record

By signing his new deal, Salah has put himself in a strong position to surpass Roger Hunt, needing just 43 more goals. While catching Ian Rush at the top remains a tall order, there’s always the possibility of another contract extension down the line.

Salah already holds the impressive distinction of having the best minutes-per-goal ratio of any Liverpool player with a minimum of 10,000 minutes played. His average of a goal every 132 minutes beats out Reds legends such as Fernando Torres (135 mins), Luis Suárez (138 mins), Michael Owen (148 mins), and Robbie Fowler (154 mins).

What sets Salah apart isn’t just his goal-scoring ability, but also his consistency and reliability, both in terms of availability and finishing. He’s never played fewer than 44 games in a season for Liverpool, with his lowest goal tally still an impressive 23, which came during the 2019-20 season when the Reds claimed the Premier League title.

He’s made over 50 appearances in five of his first seven seasons at Anfield, and he’s set to make it six out of eight if he plays at least six of the remaining seven games this season (currently on 45 appearances). Similarly, this marks his fifth season of scoring at least 30 goals (currently at 32).

A Creative Maestro and Ruthless Finisher: Salah Redefines the Premier League Standard

Mohamed Salah isn’t just a lethal goalscorer—he’s also one of the most creative forces in world football. This season has been his most productive as a playmaker for Liverpool, registering 22 assists across all competitions—at least six more than in any previous campaign. Remarkably, it’s also the highest assist tally of any player in Europe’s top five leagues, surpassing Barcelona’s Raphinha (20).

This isn’t a one-off, either. Salah has now reached double figures for league assists in six of his eight seasons at Liverpool, underlining his consistent ability to both score and create.

The 32-year-old is clearly chasing greatness this season. He’s just three goal involvements shy of the Premier League single-season record, needs four more assists to surpass the all-time mark held jointly by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne, and is 10 goals away from eclipsing Erling Haaland’s record for most goals in a single campaign.

His Premier League numbers since returning in 2017 are staggering: no player has more goals (182), total goal involvements (267), open-play assists (76), open-play chances created (481), shots (1,025), or touches in the opposition box (2,489).

In the current campaign, Salah has equalled the highest number of goal involvements in a 38-game Premier League season (44). He’s also averaging 1.44 goal involvements per 90 minutes—the best rate ever recorded in a single season by a player with at least 1,000 minutes played.

Chasing History: Salah Eyes Premier League Milestones and Legendary Status

Mohamed Salah now sits joint-fifth on the Premier League’s all-time scorers list with 184 goals, tied with Sergio Agüero. Just three goals separate him from Andrew Cole (187), and with time on his side thanks to his contract extension, he’s closing in on becoming only the fourth player to reach the 200-goal milestone in the competition.

Even his lowest goal return in a season illustrates his brilliance—his least prolific Premier League campaign with Liverpool came in 2023–24, when he scored 18 goals. Yet, since his return to England in 2017, only 15 other players have ever managed to exceed that tally in a single season.

Salah also ranks fifth for all-time Premier League goal involvements with 270. What makes this feat even more impressive is that he has played at least 147 fewer games than any of the four players ahead of him. With just two more goals or assists, he’ll surpass Ryan Giggs (271), and 10 more will see him overtake Frank Lampard (279).

With 400 appearances for Liverpool in sight before the season concludes, and two more years of elite football on the cards, Salah is poised to climb even higher in the Premier League’s record books.

The Numbers Behind the Egyptian King’s Brilliance

Mohamed Salah’s 243 goals for Liverpool are a masterclass in precision and consistency. Of those, an astonishing 199 have come via his iconic left foot, while 35 were netted with his right and nine with his head. A remarkable 229 goals were struck from inside the penalty box, 14 from distance, and 44 came from the spot. His scoring has been influential too—64 of his goals were openers and 68 were match-winners. He’s delivered the goods everywhere: 132 at Anfield, 108 away, two on neutral ground, and one in Budapest during the pandemic-altered 2019–20 season.

Manchester United have suffered the most at his hands, conceding 16 goals to Salah—his highest tally against a single club—followed by 13 each against Manchester City, Tottenham, and West Ham.

But Salah’s success story isn’t his alone. Roberto Firmino assisted him more than any other teammate (21 times), while Salah returned the favour for Sadio Mané more than anyone else, creating 17 of the Senegalese’s Liverpool goals.

Despite recent setbacks like their Champions League exit and EFL Cup final loss, Liverpool still command an 11-point lead in the Premier League with seven games to go. Slot’s debut season looks set to end in silverware—and now, with Salah’s contract extension, the Reds’ faithful can dream even bigger.

As for the rest of the league, the message is loud and clear: Mo Salah, mo’ problems.
