It’s been a year since Daniel Sturridge was last seen playing football professionally. He was released from Trabzonspor in March 2020 and was placed under a four-month ban due to breach of betting rules, for which he was also fined £150,000.Â
The former Liverpool man was one of the best strikers in the Premier League, finishing in second place for the Golden Boot award in 2013/14 behind teammate Luis Suarez who bagged the award ahead of his strike partner. However, the Englishman was plagued by injuries and could not get ahead of Roberto Firmino who arrived at the club following the arrival of Jürgen Klopp.
His time at Anfield was coming to an end when he was sent out on loan to West Brom in 2018, and then proceeded to join Trabzonspor thereafter. He is now being rumoured to be on the radar of MLS clubs DC United and Inter Miami.
Miami will be playing only their second professional season next year, and Sturridge joining them could see him reunite with former West Brom and England teammate Kieran Gibbs, who is set to join David Beckham’s MLS team at the end of the ongoing campaign.
DC United are the other team who are rumoured to be in the race for the former Liverpool striker and boast of having had Wayne Rooney play for them in recent years.
Considering that Sturridge is still 31 years old, he is waiting to hear from any other English clubs before sitting down to negotiate with clubs from the other side of the pond.
