Genoa were looking to replace Ruslan Malinovskyi after the midfielder sustained a serious injury. He will be out for the remainder of the season, and Pjanic could have been a good replacement. However, the Bosnian has chosen to explore a new avenue with the move to Russia.
“CSKA is a big club with a long history, which will always fight for the first place in the league. A club with huge potential and legendary players like Igor Akinfeev. I am glad to have joined this team. This is exactly the kind of challenge I needed. The past year was interesting. I had the opportunity to play in the Asian Champions League and win titles, but I want to return to the European stage, to a very competitive league where the stadiums attract a large audience. I’m really happy to be here,” Pjanić said.
Now, it remains to be seen if the veteran remains in Russia to close out his career or if he will return to Europe in the future.
