Gigio Donnarumma’s contract with AC Milan is set to expire in two months when the season ends, and the club has still not reached an agreement with the player regarding an extension. The player is reportedly still in talks with the club officials and wants to stay at the club beyond this season. However, an agreement between the two parties regarding the contract is needed for that to happen.
The 22-year-old has been very influential in Milan’s success over the season and is heralded as the best goalkeeper in Serie A by many. He features as the vice-captain for the Rossoneri and has also taken up the armband on a few occasions.
Chelsea have been linked with the player’s services for a long time, now. The Blues are keen to add options for reliable goalkeepers, despite the addition of Kepa Arrizabalaga and Édouard Mendy in recent years. However, the player’s agent, Mino Raiola has not yet received any bid from the Stamford Bridge outfit.
Donnarumma made his debut for the Italian national team aged 17, in 2016 and has now taken over the position of the number 1 for the Azzurri, as the rightful heir to Gigi Buffon. He has made 24 appearances for Italy since then.
Milan’s downfall in recent years has prevented the young goalkeeper from having regular experience of Champions League football, and anybody who has seen the player in action will agree that he fully deserves to compete at the highest level, and that could finally happen with the Red and Black Milan club next season, due to their good performances this season.
