The player was left out of Sociedad’s opening matchday squad in anticipation for the transfer. And it is likely to be made official this week, once the formalities have been completed between the two parties.
The 28-year-old will add to an already stacked midfield with Thomas Partey, Jorginho, Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard already available. His ability to dominate in both boxes will be a game changer, especially given the energetic brand of football Mikel Arteta demands.
Merino will be the second new signing for Arsenal this summer after their Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna earlier in the transfer window.
Did Merino play at Euro 2024?
Yes he did.
