Mikel Arteta ready to play Aubameyang in his favoured position

Aubameyang arrived at Arsenal from Dortmund as one of the best strikers at the time. He has since been pushed out wide to accommodate Lacazette without playing a 2-man frontline.

However, that could soon change and we could finally see the Gabon international operate his natural game as Mikel Arteta has hinted that Aubameyang could play as a striker again.

Here is what the manager had to say regarding the topic:

“It will depend on the games, it will depend on who he’s surrounded with.

“I think it’s very important to see who is around him and why we’re doing it. Not just the fact we’re doing it, why we’re doing that and what we’re going to get by doing these positive things. Of course, there’s a very strong possibility to play him as a [number] nine.”

With the absence of natural wingers at Arsenal, Mikel Arteta was forced to push Aubameyang out wide. This was because starting Bukayo Saka was not proving to be a very effective solution.

However, the youngster is growing into the game and with Willian on the other flank, Arteta can finally start the captain out through the middle.

Sure, Lacazette can be subbed on during the late stages of a game when the team needs a burst, but playing the best player of the team in his best position can only mean good things for the Gunners.

The North London club has had a bumpy last few games, with defeats to Manchester City, Leicester City and Liverpool among the results of the six games already played.

Arteta will have to start experimenting with his team for results to come by. He could also opt to start Lacazette and Aubameyang as part of a striking partnership, but the chances of that happening look less likely than the Frenchman hitting the bench for the time being.
