Samsung will integrate an AMD mRDNA-based GPU into its upcoming Exynos 1430 and Exynos 1480 mid-range CPUs, claims tipper Revegnus (@Tech_Reve). Both of these CPUs are anticipated to be unveiled in the first few months of 2019, and they might make their separate debuts in the Galaxy A55 and Galaxy A15. The tipper claims that users shouldn’t have “overly high expectations” from the GPUs inside these future Exynos chipsets.

It seems that Samsung is more concerned with enhancing the ISPs on its upcoming mid-range Exynos CPUs than with providing potent GPUs. The Exynos 1430 and Exynos 1480 may not offer the best gaming performance, then. It was always anticipated that the whole Exynos portfolio would one day use GPUs built on AMD’s technologies because Samsung and AMD’s cooperation was supposed to be long-term.

Samsung Exynos CPUs with AMD GPUs details

The GPU in Samsung’s top-of-the-line Exynos 2200 SoC is based on AMD’s RDNA2 graphics architecture, providing innovations like ray tracing, thus the two firms have been collaborating closely for a while. However, the reported mRDNA, which will concentrate more on image processing, will first be seen in Exynos 1430 and 1480.

As it turns out, Samsung‘s primary objective is to enhance the machine-learning and image-processing capabilities of its low-cost devices; gaming performance is most likely not going to be the main focus.
