Microsoft Surface device powered by an Intel Core i5-1035G1 spotted on UserBenchmark

A lot of upcoming Surface devices have appeared on popular benchmarking websites recently, including the ‘so-called’ Surface Go 2 and Surface Book 3. Now, a new Surface device has passed through UserBenchmark, listed as the OEMQN EV1.

The interesting thing though is which Surface device it might actually be as the device, brought to our attention by @_rogame, features an Ice Lake processor.

As per our previous Surface Go 2 benchmark listings featuring a Core M3, suggests that Microsoft is planning a modest upgrade for its smallest Surface 2-in-1 with a 15W Intel CPU.

The tipster @_rogame has identified that the device is not a Surface Pro 7 or a Surface Laptop 3, as Microsoft is yet to release a Core i5-1035G1 version of either device, but it might be an x86 machine.

The presence of the 16 GB of dual-channel RAM and 512 GB SSD can indeed point this device being a new Surface Pro. According to the listing, the device features an HFM512GDGTNG-87A0A SSD, the same one used in the Surface Laptop 3 and Surface Pro X.

Microsoft Surface Pro 7 launched with 10th Gen Intel CPUs & USB Type C port

The listing also reports the device featuring Intel Iris Plus Graphics, rather than the UHD Graphics G1 that the Core i5-1035G1 generally is found with. This could either be a mistake or a sign that Microsoft is using a custom version of the Core i5-1035G1.

Microsoft is yet to upgrade a lot of its device including Surface Go 2, Surface Book 3 and even Surface Studio, so it’s unclear which device we are actually seeing here, Microsoft is also planning to upgrade its Surface Laptop, so a new Surface Pro can also be in works.

It is also speculated that in this quarter we might actually see a few new Surface devices in action, maybe without any physical launch as such.
