IPL 2023 has been heaven for the chasing teams, with maximum teams winning the games batting second. Fans have seen high run chases this season, as well as low-score defending. Sunday afternoon was again a powerhouse of batting as Mumbai chased down 200 runs, courtesy of an outstanding ton by Cameroon Green.
MI chases another 200+ score: Cameron Green hammers a ton
Mumbai had their last group league game against SRH on Sunday afternoon, which saw some outstanding batting displays from both teams. In the end, it was the men in blue who held their nerves and chased down the target in 18 overs.
Coming down to bat first, the visitors put up a good show to manage 200 runs on the board. Mayank Agarwal’s bat sparked as he hammered a 46-ball 83. Vivrant Sharma bagged his maiden fifty and scored 47-ball 69.
Coming down to chase the big target, Mumbai was solid right from the start. Skipper Rohit Sharma finally had the first fifty of the season in style as he smashed a 37-ball 56.
The day belonged to Green, as he conquered the opponent bowlers with a sensational 47 ball 100 unbeaten, including eight sixes and eight fours. This is also the fastest ton of the season.
MI qualifies for the playoffs
Just winning the game wasn’t enough for Rohit’s team, as their playoff destiny was dependent on Bengaluru’s match at night against Gujarat. Had RCB won that game, Mumbai would have been disqualified.
However, RCB has lost the game, and that confirms MI’s entry to the playoffs.
Gujarat and Chennai will play the qualifier one on Monday, and Mumbai will take on Lucknow in Eliminator on Wednesday.
