Mesut Ozil has signed with Istanbul Basaksehir after leaving Fenerbahce. The player’s contract with Fenerbahce was terminated two years before its expiry, owing to disciplinary and performance issues.

The announcement from Basaksehir came only 29 minutes after his release from Fenerbahce was made official. The details of his contract have not been revealed as of yet.

“One of the things that makes life is that it is full of uncertainties,” Mesut Ozil posted on social media on Wednesday.

“Our plans, desires and wishes may not always go in the direction you want them to. I wanted to achieve success by getting more chances to play in the Fenerbahce jersey, which has always been my childhood dream.

“I would like to thank the Fenerbahce community and fans for the great support they have shown me.”

Since leaving Arsenal in January 2021, the player has had a difficult time on the pitch. He made 37 appearances over one-and-a-half seasons, scoring nine goals. However, he was recently dropped from the line-up owing to fitness concerns and disciplinary issues. This provoked the club to terminate his contract two years before it was set to expire.

But now, has been given a lifeline and can play first team football for another club in Turkey as his career draws to a close.
