Mercedes-Benz India today launched the all-new 6th Generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class Long Wheelbase (LWB), as part of the company’s biggest luxury-segment roll-out and also a significant shift in its strategy from launching new products to introducing entirely new segments. This new E-Class LWB takes this attitude further, with Mercedes trying to make every nameplate iteration of the E-Class count in its dedication to providing a proper product for Indian luxury car buyers.
Mercedes-Benz 6th Generation E-Class in India
The E200 is priced at INR 78.5 lakh (ex-showroom), the E220d from INR 81.5 lakh (ex-showroom), and the range-topping E450 4MATIC at INR 92.5 lakh (ex-showroom). The E200 will be delivered throughout this week, while the E220d should hit showrooms closer to Diwali and the E450 4MATIC by November.
The India-specific E-Class LWB is the market-specific version of the most popular model in India and it’s sold with only a right-hand drive configuration and nowhere else. The single-wheelbase 5 has already enjoyed a long reign as India’s best-selling luxury car, and now it is priced ₹5.6 lakh higher than the LWB BMW 5 Series that competes with it. Recent spy shots have also suggested Audi is working on an update for the A6 in India.
As mentioned earlier, the new E-Class LWB is larger now and it comes with a wheelbase of 3,094 mm (an increase of 65 mm), while the length has increased by 140 mm to 5,092mm. With this, the increased dimensions offer a roomier cabin. The design language has been carried further but is still a very contemporary look with changes coming from the more prominent chrome grille, updated LED headlight, new LED daytime running light strip on the front of the car to help distinguish it from its predecessor, wrap-around tail lights, larger doors for easy access, 18-inch alloy wheels, and flush door handles.
Inside, the Mercedes E-Class LWB showcases a luxurious Superscreen layout, including a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.4-inch central touchscreen, and a 12.3-inch screen for passengers, all operating on the 3rd Gen MBUX system with built-in AI. Notable features include premium materials, leather upholstery, neck pillows, electrically adjustable rear seats, sun blinds, a Burmester 4D surround sound system, and advanced safety features, including Level 2+ Advanced Driver Assistance System and eight airbags.
The E-Class LWB offers three engine options tailored for the Indian market: a 2.0L petrol engine in the E200 delivering 204 bhp and 320 Nm of torque, a 2.0L diesel engine in the E220d producing 197 bhp and 440 Nm, and a 3.0L V6 petrol engine in the E450 4MATIC with 381 bhp and 500 Nm, all featuring a 48V hybrid system that enhances performance.
