Netherland striker/winger has signed for FC Barcelona on a free transfer from French side Olympique Lyon. The experienced Dutch player has been under Barca’s radar for quite a while and now is finally set to become a Cule this 1st of july.
Due to FC Barcelona’s financial crisis post the pandemic due to Covid-19 Barcelona have not been able to spend much in the transfer market. This is their third signing on a free transfer the prior ones being Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia from Manchester City.
FC Barcelona’s statement post completing the signing was “FC Barcelona and Memphis Depay have reached an agreement for the player to join the club once his contract with Olympique Lyonnais is at an end. The player will sign a contract until the end of the 2022/23 season.”
Along with these three signings FC Barcelona have also signed fullback Emerson Royal from Real Betis.
Memphis Depay had previously signed for Olympique Lyon from Manchester United for under £15million.
Memphis Depay has made a total of 377 appearances for PSV Eindhoven, Manchester United and Olympique Lyon and has scored a total of 145 goals and 95 assists for these teams so far in his career.
The 27 year old Dutch forward is currently is with the Netherland national team participating in the Euros this season.
