Memphis Depay will be leaving Atletico Madrid as a free agent this summer, when his contract will expire. The forward joined the Rojiblancos last January, and the automatic renewal clause in his deal will not be exercised, allowing him to leave for free.
Depay has made 31 appearances across all competitions this summer, scoring nine goals and providing two assists. However, he has missed 28 games this season because of recurring injuries, ruling him out as a regular under Diego Simeone.

With Alvaro Morata and Antoine Griezmann leading the attack for Simeone’s line-up regularly, Depay rarely got playing time in the first half of the season. Moreover, his injuries added to the problems, leaving him unavailable even as a rotational option.
Things haven’t quite gone according to plan for the Netherlands international in Spain after his transfer to Barcelona in 2021, followed by his move to Atletico.
He hasn’t hit the heights he did with Lyon, which opens up the possibility of a return to France where he was at his best. Right now, the move depends on his choice, considering there are no club negotiations in question.
