Memphis Depay is expected to leave Barcelona during the January transfer window, as internally decided by the club. He is a transfer target for Atletico Madrid, who are looking to replace Joao Felix.
Their club record signing has left to join Chelsea on a loan deal for the remainder of the season. And with Matheus Cunha also joining Wolves in the Premier League, the Rojiblancos need a new attacker to make up the numbers for the rest of the campaign.
Memphis Depay to leave Barcelona in January
The Netherlands international has found playing time quite hard to come by under Xavi Hernandez. His inconsistent form on the pitch when opportunities have been given is also a reason behind his situation at Camp Nou.
Negotiations between the two La Liga clubs for the transfer of Memphis Depay are currently taking place. But there is no agreement over the move as of yet, and the two will need to come to an agreement for the switch to go through.
There have been rumours that Yannick Carrasco could move the other way, but there haven’t been any concrete updates on that front. And considering his importance to the team, it seems unlikely that he will be making the move to Catalonia.
It now remains to be seen whether Atletico Madrid will negotiate a cut price permanent signing or a loan deal for the Dutchman with Barcelona.
