Mexican goalkeeper Memo Ochoa is set to join Italian club Salernitana in the coming days as a free agent. His contract with Club America runs out in nine days, on December 31. And then, he will be free to join the Serie A side to take on a brand new challenge.

The 37-year-old is set to undergo a medical very soon in order to complete the transfer to Europe. Salernitana’s starting goalkeeper, Luigi Sepe has been ruled out with an injury. And Ochoa will be joining as his replacement, in an attempt to help the club until the end of the season.

The goalkeeper will be signing a deal until the end of the current season with the Italian side. He has played in Europe before, featuring for Malaga and Granada in La Liga in the past. He also played for Ajaccio in Ligue 1, and has played in the Belgian league with Standard Liege.

He signed for Club America in his native Mexico in 2019, and is now set to return to Europe. The veteran is renowned for his performances with the Mexican national team, especially during the World Cup.

He captained the team into the 2022 edition, but was unfortunate to exit the tournament in the group stage itself. He has earned 135 caps for Mexico and is one of the few players to have appeared in five World Cups.

Memo Ochoa’s transfer to Salernitana is in the final stages now, and will be made official very soon.
