Roma have agreed the signing of Mehmet Zeki Celik from Lille. The right-back will be the third signing for Jose Mourinho this summer, as he aims to build on the back of their Europa Conference League victory.
The two clubs have agreed a €7 million fee for the player, with a 15% sell-on clause included. This means that Lille will be entitled to 15% of any future sale of the defender. The final details have all been sorted out ahead of the move, and it is seemingly just a matter of time before Roma make the official announcement.
Mehmet Zeki Celik joins Roma
The 25-year-old made 32 appearances for the French side this past season, scoring two goals and providing three assists in the domestic league. With only one year remaining on his deal with Lille, the board has decided to cash in on him.
Alongside Sven Botman and potentially Renato Sanches and Jonathan David, Lille are having a squad clearout with increasing demand for their players from top European clubs.
Mehmet Zeki Celik is a Turkey international as well, and has earned 32 caps for the national team. He is quite aggressive on the pitch, and went on to accumulate ten yellow cards this past season in the league. His presence will help fortify the right side of the defense under Jose Mourinho, which has been in need for upgrades.
Davide Frattesi is the next top target for the Serie A club, with negotiations yet to be completed.
