Just when you thought anime couldn’t get more delightfully unhinged, Netflix is bringing us a chain-smoking catgirl who’s broke, behind on rent, and completely unable to quit cigarettes. *Chainsmoker Cat* is officially heading to Netflix globally starting **July 2, 2026** — and honestly, it’s exactly the chaotic comfort anime the season needs.

### So What’s It Actually About?

*Chainsmoker Cat* follows Yani, a catgirl with a seriously bad smoking habit who simply cannot quit — no matter how hard she tries. Behind on rent, unable to hold a job, and with her friends and sister perpetually trying to help her get her life together, the series leans fully into the comedic chaos that follows. It’s the kind of absurd, slice-of-life comedy that feels like a love letter to anyone who has ever tried to fix one bad habit and failed spectacularly. Think less *Re:Zero* and more guilty-pleasure comfort watch with a quirky cast and genuinely funny situations.

The series is adapted from NyanNyanFactory’s manga [*Yani Neko*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manga), a genre that has consistently produced some of anime’s most inventive slice-of-life comedies, proving once again that the strangest premises often make for the most entertaining shows.

### A Stellar Voice Cast

The show features a strong lineup of voice talent, including **Yuuko Natsuyoshi** (*The Misfit of Demon King Academy*) as lead character Yaniko Satou, alongside **Tetsu Inada** (*My Hero Academia*) and **Shiroi Izawa** (*Made in Abyss*). That’s a cast with serious anime pedigree packed behind what appears to be a delightfully low-stakes comedy. ### The Uncut Edition Is a Nice Touch

Netflix will also carry an uncut version called the **“Evil Dragon Liberation Version,”** which respects the full directorial vision of the original work. Having both a standard and uncut release globally is a thoughtful move that gives fans the choice to experience the series exactly as it was intended — something not every streaming platform offers.
