Mediatek records record-breaking revenue going up from $8 billion to $17 billion from 2019-2020

According to recent sources, MediaTek the Taiwanese mobile chipset maker has more than doubled its sales to $17 billion from $8 billion in 2019, an increase of about 50% compared to the industry average of 23%, according to the company’s senior executive.

“We have delivered a 2X revenue from 2019-2021. Our revenues doubled from $8 billion to 17 billion, and our operating margin increased to 5X,” Rick Tsai, president, and chief executive, MediaTek said.

Tsai went on to say that it was a huge accomplishment, adding that the company’s stock had increased by 2.6X since November last year.

“We have had a tremendous time during the last 2 years. With a 113% year-on-year growth, our mobile phone revenue grew 57%, compared to the industry’s growth of 23%,” the top executive said.

MediaTek’s Internet of Things (IoT) computing portfolio generated 22% of sales, up 40% year over year, while the smart home segment contributed 14% of revenue, up 34% year over year.

Tsai claims that the company has invested $3.3 billion in R&D in 2021, focusing on high-performance computing and low-power capabilities and that its cutting-edge technologies and ideas are propelling the industry ahead.

MediaTek is a very strong mobile system-on-chip (SoC) provider. Our technologies and innovation accelerate digital transformation,” the executive said, adding that the company has come along a long way in two years.

The Hsinchu-based company said that it is putting in more investments in Artificial Intelligence (AI) to drive digital transformation.

“We are unlocking the potential of 5G across applications, smartphones, data cards, and broadband. I am so proud of our technologies and achievements. Deep down, it’s a continuous investment and commitment in technology developments,” he said.

What makes MediaTek Dimensity 2000 unique over Snapdragon 898?

Over a few years, the mobile CPU manufacturer has produced cutting-edge technologies, such as modems and Wi-Fi, that are also low-power.

“Our core capabilities will bring Mediatek to a bright future in the next 3-5 years with not only Dimensity 9000 SoC but also Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 7 which will be demonstrated next January in the Consumer Electronics Show (CES),” Tsai said.

“Our leadership in edge computing and connectivity is critical to the metaverse and digital transformation. In Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) areas, we are developing capabilities together with partnerships,” added the top executive.

The company’s new flagship processor, the Density 9000, has several industry-first capabilities and is billed as the “most powerful microprocessor” ever produced, competing directly with Qualcomm and Samsung.
