We have seen in the past, many flag-ship or mid-range smartphones feature MediaTek chipsets. The Taiwanese chipmaker started to launch its Dimensity series chipsets, such as Dimensity 1000+, Dimensity 1000, Dimensity 1000L, Dimensity 820, Dimensity 720, and Dimensity 800U, etc. The rumor says that MediaTek is preparing a chipset with the model name MT689X.
On Weibo, Digital Chat Station, a tipster stated that the MediaTek MT689X will be a processor of 6nm and it will be most probably a 5G chipset. MT689X is supposed to have the same CPU frequency as the Exynos 1080.
Exynos is Samsung’s in-house chipset. The South Korean tech giant has confirmed to release the Exynos 1080 on November 12. The architecture of MediaTek MT689X is the same as Exynos 1080. Rumor says MediaTek could use Mali G77 GPU, meanwhile, Samsung’s new chipset features Mali G78 GPU and ARM’s powerful Cortex-A78 CPU.
It is expected that MT689X should score over 600,000 points on the AnTuTu benchmark, which is almost the same score as of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC. According to the tipster, the SoC might have a price tag of 2,000 yuan in China. The 5nm Exynos 1080 scored above 693K. We could see the first Exynos 1080 to power Vivo X60 in November or December.
There is no official announcement from MediaTek about the release date of its new chipset. Seeing the score at the AnTuTu benchmark, we can assume that the MT689X SoC will perform like the Snapdragon 865.
