MediaTek is set to launch the Dimensity 9400 in October, which is anticipated to inherit several features from the Dimensity 9300, including a design that includes only performance cores and omits efficiency cores. Being the first MediaTek chip to be fabbed on TSMC’s second-generation 3nm process, this new chip could offer similar levels of efficiency even without efficiency cores. The chip is also rumored to set the record in AnTuTu benchmarking by becoming the first SoC to hit the 3 million score.
The All New MediaTek Dimensity 9400
On AnTuTu, the Vivo X200 Pro based on the Dimensity 9400 manages to score 3,007,853 points. In comparison, the leading Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has recorded a score of 2,043,275, indicating that the Dimensity 9400 is 47 percent faster than Qualcomm’s top offering. But the true test will arrive next month when is expected to lift the covers off Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.
The most obvious improvement that Dimensity 9400 brings over the previous generation is how much better it manages to do in GPU-specific workloads, with a score of 1,322,761 points – contributing 44% of the entire score. For the GPU, ARM is using their latest Immortalis-G925 MP12 which should be faster than the 6-core graphics processor from A18 Pro but let’s see how it competes against Adreno 830 found inside Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. The CPU performance has also been improved quite potentially thanks to the use of a new ‘BlackHawk’ architecture which is said to have better IPC than the A17 Pro.
However, benchmark results can vary between different chipsets, which may explain why the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, running in the OnePlus 13, has achieved higher single-core and multi-core scores than both the Dimensity 9400 and A18 Pro. With more benchmark leaks expected in the future, those who manage to obtain the Vivo X200 Pro will have considerable bragging rights.
