The MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ chipset was unveiled by the company on Tuesday, May 7th. Last week, the Taiwan-based semiconductor giant teased the release of this new processor, emphasizing its advanced artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities.

Expanding on this, the company announced that the AI-enabled chipset will facilitate on-device multimodal application processing. Fabricated using TSMC’s cutting-edge third-generation 4nm process technology, it boasts up to 10 percent less power consumption and up to 25 percent less cellular data consumption.

The All New MediaTek Dimensity 9300+

After the Dimensity 9300 mobile processor comes this octa-core chip, which includes four Arm Cortex-A720 cores clocked at 2.0GHz, three Arm Cortex-X4 cores clocked up to 2.85GHz, and one Cortex-X4 core that reaches 3.4GHz maximum clock speed. LPDDR5T 9600Mbps RAM and UFS 4.0 storage with Multi-Circular Queue support are also included. Regarding graphics, the MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ chipset incorporates an Arm Immortalis-G720 GPU with a second-generation hardware ray tracing engine.

The graphics firm claims that this new GPU will offer fast ray tracing at 60 FPS. It also boosts performance and power efficiency with HyperEngine and MediaTek Adaptive Gaming Technology. The AI and ML capabilities of this mobile processor includes support for a large language model (LLM) with parameters size of 1 billion to 13 billion, scalable up to about 33 billion parameters.

The company claims that the chip can run an LLM with 7 billion parameters at 22 tokens per second. There is also on-device LoRA Fusion and NeuroPilot LoRA Fusion 2.0. This feature allows developers to develop multimodal AI apps, including text, images, music, etc., given that the mobile processor is compatible with the following LLMs: Google Gemini Nano, Meta Llama 2 and 3, Ernie-3.5-SE, Alibaba Cloud Qwen, among others.

The SoC also includes the capabilities of the Imagiq 990 ISP, which the company promises will provide 18-bit RAW processing even in dim light thanks to AI algorithms. Moreover, the Imagiq 990 realized AI videography due to the AI Semantic Analysis Video Engine. The 5G modem with AI situational Awareness is included as well. MiraVision 990 improves portrait photography. The new MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ model provides the 5G R16 modem. It offers 7Gbps downlink, and 4CC-CA sub-6GHz bands are supported.
