Real Madrid has been wanting to sign Kylian Mbappe for a long time since he was a kid. The Frenchman wanted to stay in his home country, so he signed for Paris Saint-Germain from Monaco. He has won numerous domestic trophies with PSG but has fallen short in the European competitions each time.
Mbappe’s contract with PSG ends in the summer of 2022, and PSG want him to sign a contract extension, but the Frenchman is reluctant to sign a new contract as he is not sure about his future.
If Mbappe is on the market, Real Madrid will fight with all means to sign the 2018 World Cup winner. Another thing that could help Florentino Perez pursue Mbappe is his deteriorating relationship with PSG president Al-Khelaifi, who commented earlier that the Frenchman could not dictate the club’s transfer policy.
Al-Khelaifi said, via Marca: “If [Mbappe] says that [he wants a winning project] it is because he wants to win and it is not a bad thing.”
“We are also ambitious. But if he wants to decide if we sign [someone] or not, that’s not possible.”
Mbappe said commented on the issue: “What I do want to make clear is that I have never asked [PSG sporting director] Leonardo or anyone at the club [to sign] a player,”
“I am a football player who has to be content with what I do on the field.”
Mbappe further added: “I’m at a place that I like, but is it the best place for me? I still don’t have the answer.”
If PSG cannot sign a contract extension with Mbappe this summer, he can walk away from the club for free next summer. So PSG would rather want to sell him this summer rather than losing him for free. Real Madrid are keeping an eye on this transfer situation.
