Five months on the sidelines due to injury, followed by four Indian Premier League games. Without any match practise, Mayank Yadav was by no means thinking of an early call-up for India. However, when the BCCI included the pacer from the Lucknow Super Giants in the team of 15 players for the upcoming home T20I series against Bangladesh, which begins next month, the inevitable happened.
The Delhi fast bowler, who has only played 14 T20s, attracted attention when he routinely bowled for LSG at a pace of 150 runs per over in three of his four IPL 2024 matches. Laxman has shown a particular interest in Mayank ever since he joined the NCA, and the BCCI wasted no time in selecting him for the Bangladesh series as soon as the medical team deemed him fit.
Mayank’s instructor, Devender Sharma, shared Laxman’s behind-the-scenes account. “Thank you so much, Laxman, sir. As soon as Mayank arrived at NCA, he showed a particular interest in her. Laxman sir gave him clear instructions to focus on strengthening his core strength before beginning to bowl, according to Sharma.
It took a while to complete. BCCI was unwilling to take any chances. After he began bowling two months ago, it took him a month to return to his typical pace. He has been bowling 15 overs a day at the NCA for the past six weeks, per another order from Laxman sir, Devender continued.
He is seen as a talent who will serve Indian cricket for the longest period, so if his body holds up well, they may gradually draft him into the longer formats. Additionally, according to Devender, Mayank is part of India’s plans for the next Border Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.
Indeed, there is a draw to travel to Australia by Mayank. However, he will be tested in the T20Is first, as far as I know. He was then instructed to play for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy.
