## Episode 1 Recap — The Night Everything Went Wrong

The premiere follows Paula, a struggling woman in the middle of a custody battle with her ex-husband Karl for their daughter Hazel. After Karl fell in love with a co-worker, the couple parted ways and Paula has been making ends meet trying to win custody.

Paula regularly chats with Trevor, an online sex worker, not just for intimacy but to rant about her complicated life. One night during their video call, someone rings Trevor’s doorbell — and suddenly a masked man is attacking and kidnapping him on screen. Not knowing where he lives, Paula records the assault on her phone while screaming for the attacker to stop.

She reports the incident to Detective Sofia Gonzalez, who advises her to let it go — likely an online scam. That advice seems confirmed when Trevor starts calling Paula’s work number and blackmails her for money. But Paula, armed with her fact-checking skills and a hockey stick, decides to investigate herself.

She tracks down Trevor’s home and finds the front door open. Making her way upstairs, she discovers Trevor’s dead body in the bathtub — and then hears footsteps coming up the stairs. [ScreenCrush](https://screencrush.com/new-netflix-june-2026/)

## Episode 2 — The Killer Closes In

Trevor’s partner — played by Murray Bartlett — pieces together that Paula was in the apartment and escaped. How? She left Hazel’s cleats behind at the scene. Now the killer has a direct trail leading straight back to Paula.

The [dark comedy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_comedy) genre has rarely felt this precise — equal parts suburban chaos and genuine dread, anchored by a lead performance that critics are already calling career-best territory.

Tatiana Maslany’s manic, barely-contained energy doesn’t just carry the series — it propels it, making Paula’s messiness wholly compelling from frame one. [What’s on Netflix](https://www.whats-on-netflix.com/what-to-watch/best-new-movies-netflix-june-2026/)
