Mauricio Pochettino has agreed to become the next manager of the USMNT. The Argentine has been without a job for a month since leaving Chelsea at the end of the 23-24 season. But, now, he has chosen his new project as per reports coming from the USA.

The former Chelsea manager will be leading the national team into the 2026 World Cup, with the length of his contract yet to be confirmed.

Mauricio Pochettino to become new USMNT manager

The 52-year-old is perhaps the biggest name to coach the USMNT since Jurgen Klinsmann. And he will take over the bench from Gregg Berhalter, who was dismissed after the group stage exit in the 2024 Copa America.

Interestingly, Pochettino has worked with the USMNT sporting director, Matt Crocker, when the pair were at Southampton in 2013. As a result, it could be the rekindling of a previous working relationship between the two that could change the landscape of football for America.

Jurgen Klopp was one of the names rumoured to be the next manager of the country. However, following Emma Hayes moving to the women’s team, the former Chelsea men’s head coach has also followed suit.

Which other clubs has Pochettino managed?

Tottenham, PSG and Espanyol.
