Matt Turner will be joining Arsenal at the end of the season, an official statement from both clubs has confirmed. The player will be the record sale for New England Revolution, with a transfer fee worth around $9 million including add-ons.
There is also a 10% sell-on clause included in the contract, which entitles New England Revolution to a tenth of any fee that Arsenal receive for the goalkeeper in the future. He will be signing a contract until 2026 with the North London outfit.
Matt Turner confirmed to be joining Arsenal
“The New England Revolution have agreed to terms for goalkeeper Matt Turner to join Arsenal of the English Premier League in a summer transfer for an undisclosed fee pending completion of a medical,” the statement from the MLS club read.
Turner, the 2021 Allstate MLS Goalkeeper of the Year, is expected to join Arsenal in late June 2022, allowing the United States international to remain with New England through the entirety of the 2022 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League campaign and nearly half of the 2022 MLS regular season. Further information will be shared when the transfer is completed.”
Turner will be replacing Bernd Leno at the club, with the German expected to leave Arsenal at the end of the season. The goalkeeper has been relegated to the bench following the arrival of Aaron Ramsdale. And now, Mikel Arteta has asked for the USMNT international as his number 2.
