Matheus Martins to join Watford through Udinese in 2023

Brazilian youngster Matheus Martins is set to join Watford during the January transfer window. The player will be making the move from Fluminense, in his native country.

The deal is a little more complicated than a standard transfer. This is because Watford are actually taking him on loan from Udinese in Serie A, who will actually be signing him. The two clubs have the same owner, which makes the operation a bit easier to execute.

The transfer fee agreed for Matheus Martins is €6 million up-front, plus €3 million in add-ons. The medicals for the transfer have been completed last week, and the move should be made official very soon.

The Brazilian side have included a sell-on clause of 10%, which means that they will be entitled to the agreed percentage of any future fee for Martins. It is as of yet unclear how long he will be signed for by Udinese, since there is only a pre-agreement between the two parties.

Even if the announcement comes in December, he will not be able to play in the Championship. This is because the registration window opens only in January.

He follows his compatriots, Joao Pedro and Richarlison, who also made the move from Fluminense to Watford. Both of the players have been quite impressive during their time in England. And Matheus Martins could follow the same trajectory if everything works out well.
