Recently, Mastercard has opened one of the largest tech centers globally in the Pune area for its digital payment technology solutions. The upcoming Pune Tech Hub will host more than 6,000 technologists skilled in software development, data architecture, and cybersecurity among others from Mastercard across its largest workforce at a single location globally. This company started work by opening its India Tech Hub in Pune back in 2014 with a small team that has seen significant growth over the last decade. The hub is also critical in supporting Mastercard’s global operations for payment security, cybersecurity, fraud detection, and digital identity capabilities.

Ed McLaughlin, President & Chief Technology Officer at Mastercard, stated, “Our new Tech Hub in Pune will play a crucial role in Mastercard’s global technology strategy. As a key node in our worldwide technology operations, it will collaborate with other hubs globally to develop innovative technologies that drive economic growth and enhance daily life. This hub also reflects Mastercard’s ongoing commitment to empowering India, advancing its digital goals, and nurturing the country’s vast talent pool.”

Mastercard’s global Tech Hub network now includes locations in Arlington, Dublin, New York, Pune, St. Louis, Sydney, and Vancouver. Gautam Aggarwal, Division President for South Asia at Mastercard, emphasized the strategic importance of India, stating, “We are dedicated to investing in technologies that support the digital economy across the continent. The new Tech Hub in Pune represents a significant milestone, highlighting our focus on growth in this market. With a strong team in India driving global technological innovations, we are eager to contribute to the Government of India’s ambitious digitization objectives, working alongside our valued partners in the region.”

Pune is home to much of Mastercard’s technology workforce that produces solutions specific to the Indian domestic market, including development work such as Community Pass; a global pilot launch in India – Payment Passkey Service which leverages biometrics and tokenization for safe online transactions or its role as an authorized Authentication Service Agency bringing Aadhaar based services through banking and government partners. Mastercard also has a presence in India with offices based out of Gurugram, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru apart from Pune.
