Getafe have confirmed the arrival of Mason Greenwood on a loan deal from Manchester United. The player has joined on a straight loan deal and will be returning to United next summer, and the deal completed on deadline day between the two sides.

The Spanish side will be covering a small part of the player’s salary, with more than 50% of his £75,000-per-week salary being covered by United. United have also rented out an £8,000 6-bedroom villa and hired a translator for him. There are reports that the player is determined to get back to United, and that the club is ready to help him rebuild his career but they remain speculative.

Greenwood’s arrival has been met with backlash from Spanish domestic abuse charity, Ana Bella Foundation. Here is the official statement they released:

“The club is setting a terrible example. Getafe executives should never have hired Mason Greenwood and should immediately overturn their decision.

“If you’re a public facing organisation like Getafe there is no excuse to take a neutral stance on violence against women – you must take moral responsibility.”

There was interest from Lazio in Italy for the player as well. But, he has instead opted for Getafe as his loan destination with United choosing not to bring him back to the first team after mass protests.
