The Multiverse Saga is winding down, and Marvel is already rebuilding. The studio’s next era, the Mutant Saga, puts a powerful group of women front and center, and the lineup is anything but predictable.

## What Is the Mutant Saga?

*Avengers: Secret Wars* arrives on December 17, 2027, and is set to reboot the MCU and usher in Saga 3. At D23 in August, Kevin Feige confirmed that Jake Schreier’s *X-Men* reboot will open the saga on May 5, 2028. He also brought the female cast on stage.

## Meet the Heroes

**Storm (Maya Boyd)** is a bold pick. The 23-year-old Broadway performer has no major film credits, so this will be her feature debut. She follows Halle Berry and Alexandra Shipp in the role, and she’ll need to carry one of Marvel’s most beloved characters.

**Emma Frost (Samara Weaving)** is the wild card. She has been both villain and hero in the comics, from the Hellfire Club’s White Queen to X-Men ally. It’s unclear which side Marvel will show first.

**Rogue (Inde Navarrette)** surprised fans, since rumors had linked her to Mystique. Her skin-to-skin power absorption could allow some intriguing crossovers, and Navarrette’s role in *Obsession* showed she can play troubled, layered characters.

## Shuri Returns Too

Beyond the X-Men, *Black Panther 3* arrives on December 15, 2028. Ryan Coogler returns to direct, and David Jonsson plays the next Black Panther, T’Challa II. That means a major role for Letitia Wright’s Shuri, who becomes a mentor to her nephew and may even take a new title from the comics.

Marvel’s earlier women heroes, including Black Widow, Scarlet Witch and Gamora, carried major stories. Now a fresh lineup gets the baton.
