Maruti Suzuki will set up an EV manufacturing plant in Haryana

The Haryana State Government has allotted nearly 800 acres of land to Maruti Suzuki at the IMT (Industrial Model Township) Kharkhoda in Haryana as per sources. The land allotment is subject to further approvals but Maruti expects to establish a new production facility by 2025 which will have a total capacity to make 2.5 lakh cars on an annual basis.

Maruti Suzuki is likely to use the plant for Electric Vehicle manufacturing:

This plant in all likelihood will be used to make EVs, the timeline for the completion of this facility is 2025 and it correctly falls in line with the automaker’s previously announced plans of introducing its first electric car. Maruti will invest nearly 11,000 crores in order to develop the plan in the first phase.

Apart from just EVs, the automaker will also have to build some internal components that will need specific and specialized tooling and machinery which are not present in its existing facilities.

As per the carmaker, there will be, “space for capacity expansion to include more manufacturing plants in the future.” In addition to this new facility, Maruti will also be setting up a new electric car production facility in Gujarat.

The carmaker has planned a 3,100 crore INR investment in order to expand its existing plant near Ahmedabad for EV manufacturing, and a 7,300 crore INR investment for an EV battery plant that will be completed in 2026 right next to this facility.

The first electric car from this brand will be in the price range of 10 to 20 lakh INR, it will be pitted against the Tata Nexon EV and other offerings from Hyundai and MG.
