Maruti Suzuki India (MSI), the country’s largest car manufacturer, recorded total sales of 181,343 units in September 2023. This marked a 3.9% increase compared to the 176,306 units sold during the same period in the previous year. Within India, MSI’s domestic sales reached 158,832 units in September this year, reflecting a 2.5% growth from the 154,903 units sold during the same month last year.

All About the Maruti Suzuki Milestone

Exports of MSI vehicles during this period reached 22,511 units, up from 21,403 units exported in September 2022. For the April-September 2023 period, Maruti Suzuki achieved total sales of 1,050,085 units. This milestone marks the first time that MSI has exceeded the one million units sales mark for the first half of a year, as stated in a company filing.

During April-September this year, domestic sales reached 888,603 units, compared to 814,509 units during the same period last year. Exports during April-September 2023 amounted to 132,542 units, compared to 132,632 units in the corresponding period last year.

Among the mini and compact-segment Maruti cars in September 2023, the top-selling models included the Maruti Suzuki Alto, Maruti Suzuki S-Presso, and Maruti Suzuki Swift. However, it’s worth noting that both the Alto and S-Presso witnessed a decline in sales, with a total of 10,351 units sold in September 2023, down from 29,574 units sold during the same period last year.

Maruti Suzuki’s passenger vehicle segment includes models like the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Maruti Suzuki Invicto, Maruti Suzuki Jimny, Maruti Suzuki S-Cross, and Maruti Suzuki XL6, which collectively recorded total sales of 59,271 units. Additionally, the Maruti Suzuki Eeco achieved total sales of 11,147 units during the same period.

The compact cars portfolio, featuring models such as the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Maruti Suzuki Celerio, Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Maruti Suzuki Ignis, Maruti Suzuki Swift, Maruti Suzuki Tour S, and Maruti Suzuki WagonR, reported combined sales of 68,552 units in the previous month. The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, however, achieved sales of 1,491 units during the same period. The Super Carry LCV from Maruti Suzuki sold a total of 2,294 units in September this year.

For the April-September 2023 period, the automaker’s mini and compact segment offerings achieved sales of 72,550 units and 418,930 units, respectively. The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz recorded sales of 7,441 units during the same period. The utility vehicles segment reported sales of 306,467 units during the same period, and the Maruti Suzuki Eeco and Maruti Suzuki Super Carry achieved sales of 67,719 units and 15,496 units, respectively.

In terms of financial performance, Maruti Suzuki witnessed a substantial increase in its consolidated net profit during Q1 2023, with profits totalling ₹2,525 crore for the quarter ending June 30, 2023, compared to ₹1,036 crore in the corresponding period of the previous year.

Total revenue from operations also saw growth, reaching ₹32,338 crore in the April-June quarter, up from ₹26,512 crore in the same period last year. As of the market closing on September 29, MSI’s shares were trading at ₹10,601.70 on the BSE and at ₹10,586.70 on the NSE.
