Manchester United are set to sign Martin Dubravka from Newcastle United as their new 2nd choice goalkeeper. The deal has been given the here we go signal by Fabrizio Romano, which means it is only a matter of time before it is made official.

The player will join the Red Devils on a loan deal with the option to make the move permanent worth £5 million. There is no obligation for United to activate that clause, which means that he could still return to Newcastle after spending a year at Old Trafford.

United were left short-staffed in the goalkeeper’s position after the departure of Dean Henderson. The Englishman wanted to play more minutes, but was unable to get ahead of David De Gea. As a result, he is now the first-choice goalkeeper for Nottingham Forest on loan.

The arrival of Nick Pope has also pushed Martin Dubravka down in the pecking order. And as a result, he is not expected to get as many minutes. With United needing a reliable number two, the move for Dubravka is a smart one.

They had considered several other options including Yann Sommer, Kevin Trapp and Illan Meslier. But, Dubravka has been identified as the ideal option and the deal for him has now been concluded. The player will be in Manchester today to complete his medical and finalise the transfer.
