PSG and Marseille finished 0-0 despite the Parisians being a man down in the second half. The game was utter chaos and the fans were unruly in their behaviour, hurling trash at PSG players despite pleas from Dimitri Payet and president Jacques-Henri-Eyraud.
Marseille fans have a history of being violent towards PSG, and it got so bad that the police had to put up shields whenever Neymar went to take a corner. PSG fans were not allowed in the stadium due to prior incidents and the home fans took full advantage of the situation to heckle the visitors.
Achraf Hakimi was the man sent off for PSG, since he had to tackle Cengiz Under as the last man protecting the break. The Moroccan was sent off following his tackle, and he will miss the next Ligue 1 game.
Both sides had early goals disallowed by VAR, and neither team was able to find a breakthrough in the game. PSG will be happy to keep a clean sheet despite having a key defender sent off and playing almost the entirety of the second half with a man light.
“I think we played very well, but we just couldn’t get the goal,” Pochettino told broadcaster Amazon Prime.
“The team showed great character, and of course identity and style.”
PSG remain at the top of the table with 28 points from eleven games, and are seven points clear of Lens, in second place. Marseille, on the other hand, are fourth with 18 points from 10 games.
