Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Marquinhos from Sao Paulo in Brazil. The winger has signed a long-term contract with the North London side until 2027.
The winger will join the club in the coming days, after he gets a clearance from the government. The Premier League side were pushing to sign the player, and have now made the move official.
Marquinhos joins Arsenal from Sao Paulo
Technical director Edu said: “We’re delighted to have completed the transfer with Sao Paulo, as Marquinhos was a player we had been watching for a while. At 19, he is still very young, so he is a player for the future. We look forward to Marquinhos now joining us for pre-season, making his new home, and continuing to grow and develop with us.”
The teenager is the first signing of the summer transfer window for Mikel Arteta. Sao Paulo have agreed a compensation worth €3.5 million for the player. He is expected to be a bright prospect for the future as Arteta continues his rebuild of the first team.
Arsenal are also in the market to sign Gabriel Jesus and Youri Tielemans from Manchester City and Leicester City respectively. They are yet to finalise negotiations for the two key players, but are in contact with the two clubs. However, they will face stiff competition for their potential targets this summer, as other clubs are also interested in signing the pair.
